Extending and challenging children is vital if they are to be happy. Nurturing a growth mindset in our children is central to the learning process and is communicated and explained to the children on a continual basis.

Our children know that some have strengths in certain areas but also know that they can develop these skills further with hard work and dedication. Furthermore, through self-reflection and peer feedback, our learners understand that making mistakes is all part of the learning process.

Pastoral Learning

Ensuring the happiness and safety of children is of utmost importance at Priory, and it is at the core of our daily operations. We have established a strong and effective safeguarding policy that all staff diligently follow, and we regularly review and update it to ensure its relevance and effectiveness.

To further support the well-being of our students, we conduct regular ‘health checks’ with the children to gauge how they are faring in school. This feedback mechanism allows pupils to provide anonymous input on their experiences at Priory, ensuring that each child’s voice is heard and valued.

Our previous Head Boy, Mr. Demilade Runsewe, took the initiative to leave suggestion boxes for his younger peers, providing them with a channel to express their ideas and concerns. These boxes are checked weekly, and we carefully consider and appreciate all the thoughts and suggestions shared by our students.

At Priory, fostering a positive and inclusive environment is fundamental to our commitment to the well-being and development of every child in our care. We believe in creating a nurturing atmosphere where students can thrive academically, emotionally, and socially.

Termly Parent Conferences also help the school understand parents’ concerns and allow us to work together with families to get the best out of their children.

Anti-bullying is part of the safeguarding programme and is supported by ensuring the children are aware of what bullying is, what it looks like, sounds like and feels like. Teachers use PSHE and circle time to assist the children with their conflict resolution skills.

Priory has a code of conduct which is clearly communicated to the children and parents at the beginning of the year. Part of this includes a reward system where the children are celebrated for their work, their behaviour and their overall achievements.
